Jeremiah 24:5

5: "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: The good figs represent the exiles I sent from Judah to the land of the Babylonians.

I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure, just as gold and silver are refined and purified by fire. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, `These are my people,' and they will say, `The LORD is our God.'"

The LORD is good. When trouble comes, he is a strong refuge. And he knows everyone who trusts in him.

I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word.

And have you entirely forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you, his children? He said, "My child, don't ignore it when the Lord disciplines you, and don't be discouraged when he corrects you.
For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes those he accepts as his children."
As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Whoever heard of a child who was never disciplined?
If God doesn't discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children after all.
Since we respect our earthly fathers who disciplined us, should we not all the more cheerfully submit to the discipline of our heavenly Father and live forever?

Happy are those whom you discipline, LORD, and those whom you teach from your law.
You give them relief from troubled times until a pit is dug for the wicked.
The LORD will not reject his people; he will not abandon his own special possession.

The suffering you sent was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your principles.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

I am the one who corrects and disciplines everyone I love. Be diligent and turn from your indifference.

He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good.

But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and "Those who claim they belong to the Lord must turn away from all wickedness."

And now that you have found God (or should I say, now that God has found you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual powers of this world?
