2: "Please ask the LORD to help us. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon has begun his attack on Judah. Perhaps the LORD will be gracious and do a mighty miracle as he has done in the past. Perhaps he will force Nebuchadnezzar to withdraw his armies."

Joshua 10:1
- Now Adoni-zedek, king of Jerusalem, heard that Joshua had captured and completely destroyed Ai and killed its king, just as he had destroyed the city of Jericho and killed its king. He also learned that the Gibeonites had made peace with Israel and were now their allies.
- He and his people became very afraid when they heard all this because Gibeon was a large city--as large as the royal cities and larger than Ai. And the Gibeonite men were mighty warriors.
- So King Adoni-zedek of Jerusalem sent messengers to several other kings: Hoham of Hebron, Piram of Jarmuth, Japhia of Lachish, and Debir of Eglon.
- "Come and help me destroy Gibeon," he urged them, "for they have made peace with Joshua and the people of Israel."
- So these five Amorite kings combined their armies for a united attack. They moved all their troops into place and attacked Gibeon.
1 Kings 22:3
- During the visit, Ahab said to his officials, "Do you realize that the Arameans are still occupying our city of Ramoth-gilead? And we haven't done a thing about it!"
- Then he turned to Jehoshaphat and asked, "Will you join me in fighting against Ramoth-gilead?" And Jehoshaphat replied to King Ahab, "Why, of course! You and I are brothers, and my troops are yours to command. Even my horses are at your service."
- Then Jehoshaphat added, "But first let's find out what the LORD says."
- So King Ahab summoned his prophets, about four hundred of them, and asked them, "Should I go to war against Ramoth-gilead or not?" They all replied, "Go right ahead! The Lord will give you a glorious victory!"
- But Jehoshaphat asked, "Isn't there a prophet of the LORD around, too? I would like to ask him the same question."
Jeremiah 39:1
- It was in January during the ninth year of King Zedekiah's reign that King Nebuchadnezzar and his army returned to besiege Jerusalem.
- Two and a half years later, on July 18, the Babylonians broke through the wall, and the city fell.
Jeremiah 52:3
- So the LORD, in his anger, finally banished the people of Jerusalem and Judah from his presence and sent them into exile. Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
- So on January 15, during the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon led his entire army against Jerusalem. They surrounded the city and built siege ramps against its walls.
- Jerusalem was kept under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah's reign.

Exodus 14:1
- Then the LORD gave these instructions to Moses:

- Then Pharaoh will think, `Those Israelites are confused. They are trapped between the wilderness and the sea!'

- As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him.
- Reaching into his shepherd's bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it from his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face downward to the ground.
1 Samuel 14:6
- "Let's go across to see those pagans," Jonathan said to his armor bearer. "Perhaps the LORD will help us, for nothing can hinder the LORD. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!"
- "Do what you think is best," the youth replied. "I'm with you completely, whatever you decide."
- "All right then," Jonathan told him. "We will cross over and let them see us.
- If they say to us, `Stay where you are or we'll kill you,' then we will stop and not go up to them.
- But if they say, `Come on up and fight,' then we will go up. That will be the LORD's sign that he will help us defeat them."
2 Kings 25:1

- The men of Israel chased them from Mizpah to Beth-car, slaughtering them all along the way.
- Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer--"the stone of help"--for he said, "Up to this point the LORD has helped us!"
Ezekiel 14:3
- "Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that lead them into sin. Why should I let them ask me anything?
- Give them this message from the Sovereign LORD: I, the LORD, will punish the people of Israel who set up idols in their hearts so they fall into sin and then come to a prophet asking for help.
- I will do this to capture the minds and hearts of all my people who have turned from me to worship their detestable idols.
- "Therefore, give the people of Israel this message from the Sovereign LORD: Repent and turn away from your idols, and stop all your loathsome practices.
- I, the LORD, will punish all those, both Israelites and foreigners, who reject me and set up idols in their hearts so they fall into sin, and who then come to a prophet asking for my advice.
2 Chronicles 20:1
- After this, the armies of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites declared war on Jehoshaphat.
- Messengers came and told Jehoshaphat, "A vast army from Edom is marching against you from beyond the Dead Sea. They are already at Hazazon-tamar." (This was another name for En-gedi.)
- Jehoshaphat was alarmed by this news and sought the LORD for guidance. He also gave orders that everyone throughout Judah should observe a fast.
- So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the LORD.
- Jehoshaphat stood before the people of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the new courtyard at the Temple of the LORD.
2 Kings 22:13
- "Go to the Temple and speak to the LORD for me and for the people and for all Judah. Ask him about the words written in this scroll that has been found. The LORD's anger is burning against us because our ancestors have not obeyed the words in this scroll. We have not been doing what this scroll says we must do."
- So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Acbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to the newer Mishneh section of Jerusalem to consult with the prophet Huldah. She was the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah and grandson of Harhas, the keeper of the Temple wardrobe.
2 Chronicles 32:21
- And the LORD sent an angel who destroyed the Assyrian army with all its commanders and officers. So Sennacherib returned home in disgrace to his own land. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him there with a sword.
Psalms 46:8
- Come, see the glorious works of the LORD: See how he brings destruction upon the world
- and causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear in two; he burns the shields with fire.
- "Be silent, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world."
- The LORD Almighty is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.
2 Chronicles 14:9
- Once an Ethiopian named Zerah attacked Judah with an army of a million men and three hundred chariots. They advanced to the city of Mareshah,
- so Asa deployed his armies for battle in the valley north of Mareshah.
- Then Asa cried out to the LORD his God, "O LORD, no one but you can help the powerless against the mighty! Help us, O LORD our God, for we trust in you alone. It is in your name that we have come against this vast horde. O LORD, you are our God; do not let mere men prevail against you!"
- So the LORD defeated the Ethiopians in the presence of Asa and the army of Judah, and the enemy fled.
- Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar, and so many Ethiopians fell that they were unable to rally. They were destroyed by the LORD and his army, and the army of Judah carried off vast quantities of plunder.
2 Kings 1:3
- But the angel of the LORD told Elijah, who was from Tishbe, "Go and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, `Why are you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether the king will get well? Is there no God in Israel?
Jeremiah 38:14
- One day King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah to meet him at the third entrance of the LORD's Temple. "I want to ask you something," the king said. "And don't try to hide the truth."
- Jeremiah said, "If I tell you the truth, you will kill me. And if I give you advice, you won't listen to me anyway."
- So King Zedekiah secretly promised him, "As surely as the LORD our Creator lives, I will not kill you or hand you over to the men who want you dead."
- Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "The LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: If you surrender to Babylon, you and your family will live, and the city will not be burned.
- But if you refuse to surrender, you will not escape! This city will be handed over to the Babylonians, and they will burn it to the ground."
Jeremiah 32:17
- "O Sovereign LORD! You have made the heavens and earth by your great power. Nothing is too hard for you!

- Elisha replied, "As surely as the LORD Almighty lives, whom I serve, I would not bother with you except for my respect for King Jehoshaphat of Judah.
Psalms 48:4
- The kings of the earth joined forces and advanced against the city.
- But when they saw it, they were stunned; they were terrified and ran away.
- They were gripped with terror, like a woman writhing in the pain of childbirth
- or like the mighty ships of Tarshish being shattered by a powerful east wind.
- We had heard of the city's glory, but now we have seen it ourselves--the city of the LORD Almighty. It is the city of our God; he will make it safe forever.
Isaiah 59:1
- Listen! The LORD is not too weak to save you, and he is not becoming deaf. He can hear you when you call.
- But there is a problem--your sins have cut you off from God. Because of your sin, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.
Judges 4:1
- After Ehud's death, the Israelites again did what was evil in the LORD's sight.
- So the LORD handed them over to King Jabin of Hazor, a Canaanite king. The commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-haggoyim.
- Sisera, who had nine hundred iron chariots, ruthlessly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years. Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD for help.
- Deborah, the wife of Lappidoth, was a prophet who had become a judge in Israel.
- She would hold court under the Palm of Deborah, which stood between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites came to her to settle their disputes.
