Isaiah 5:3

3: "Now, you people of Jerusalem and Judah, you have heard the case; you be the judges.

Heaven and earth will be his witnesses as he judges his people:
"Bring my faithful people to me--those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices."
Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge.

"What do you suppose the owner of the vineyard will do?" Jesus asked. "I'll tell you--he will come and kill them all and lease the vineyard to others.
Didn't you ever read this in the Scriptures? 'The stone rejected by the builders has now become the cornerstone.
This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous to see.'"
The Jewish leaders wanted to arrest him for using this illustration because they realized he was pointing at them--they were the wicked farmers in his story. But they were afraid to touch him because of the crowds. So they left him and went away.

Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.

So they dragged him out of the vineyard and murdered him. "What do you suppose the owner of the vineyard will do to those farmers?" Jesus asked.
"I'll tell you--he will come and kill them all and lease the vineyard to others.But God forbid that such a thing should ever happen," his listeners protested.

But no, you won't listen. So you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself because of your stubbornness in refusing to turn from your sin. For there is going to come a day of judgment when God, the just judge of all the world,

Listen to the word of the LORD, people of Jacob--all you families of Israel!
This is what the LORD says: "What sin did your ancestors find in me that led them to stray so far? They worshiped foolish idols, only to become foolish themselves.

Of course not! Though everyone else in the world is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say, "He will be proved right in what he says, and he will win his case in court."

"And now, O mountains, listen to the LORD's complaint! He has a case against his people Israel! He will prosecute them to the full extent of the law.
O my people, what have I done to make you turn from me? Tell me why your patience is exhausted! Answer me!

"When the owner of the vineyard returns," Jesus asked, "what do you think he will do to those farmers?"
The religious leaders replied, "He will put the wicked men to a horrible death and lease the vineyard to others who will give him his share of the crop after each harvest."
