14: After Hezekiah received the letter and read it, he went up to the LORD's Temple and spread it out before the LORD.

and if your people offer a prayer concerning their troubles or sorrow, raising their hands toward this Temple,

For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.

When King Hezekiah heard their report, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and went into the Temple of the LORD to pray.

The LORD said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your request. I have set apart this Temple you have built so that my name will be honored there forever. I will always watch over it and care for it.

God is well known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.
Jerusalem is where he lives; Mount Zion is his home.
There he breaks the arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and weapons of his foes.

May you watch over this Temple both day and night, this place where you have said you would put your name. May you always hear the prayers I make toward this place.
May you hear the humble and earnest requests from me and your people Israel when we pray toward this place. Yes, hear us from heaven where you live, and when you hear, forgive.
"If someone wrongs another person and is required to take an oath of innocence in front of the altar at this Temple,
then hear from heaven and judge between your servants--the accuser and the accused. Punish the guilty party, and acquit the one who is innocent.
"If your people Israel are defeated by their enemies because they have sinned against you, and if they turn to you and call on your name and pray to you here in this Temple,

I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven.
We look to the LORD our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal.
Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt.
We have had our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant.

I wait quietly before God, for my salvation comes from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.
So many enemies against one man--all of them trying to kill me. To them I'm just a broken-down wall or a tottering fence.

Listen to my prayer and my request, O LORD my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is making to you today.
May you watch over this Temple both day and night, this place where you have said you would put your name. May you always hear the prayers I make toward this place.

The priests, who minister in the LORD's presence, will stand between the people and the altar, weeping. Let them pray, "Spare your people, LORD! They belong to you, so don't let them become an object of mockery. Don't let their name become a proverb of unbelieving foreigners who say, `Where is the God of Israel? He must be helpless!'"
Then the LORD will pity his people and be indignant for the honor of his land!
He will reply, "Look! I am sending you grain and wine and olive oil, enough to satisfy your needs. You will no longer be an object of mockery among the surrounding nations.
I will remove these armies from the north and send them far away. I will drive them back into the parched wastelands, where they will die. Those in the rear will go into the Dead Sea; those at the front will go into the Mediterranean. The stench of their rotting bodies will rise over the land." Surely the LORD has done great things!

How long, O God, will you allow our enemies to mock you? Will you let them dishonor your name forever?
