Hosea 4:12

12: They are asking a piece of wood to tell them what to do! They think a stick can tell them the future! Longing after idols has made them foolish. They have played the prostitute, serving other gods and deserting their God.

Jeremiah 2:27

  1. To an image carved from a piece of wood they say, `You are my father.' To an idol chiseled out of stone they say, `You are my mother.' They turn their backs on me, but in times of trouble they cry out for me to save them!

  1. Your deeds won't let you return to your God. You are a prostitute through and through, and you cannot know the LORD.

Habakkuk 2:19

  1. How terrible it will be for you who beg lifeless wooden idols to save you. You ask speechless stone images to tell you what to do. Can an idol speak for God? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside.

Isaiah 44:18

  1. Such stupidity and ignorance! Their eyes are closed, and they cannot see. Their minds are shut, and they cannot think.
  2. The person who made the idol never stops to reflect, "Why, it's just a block of wood! I burned half of it for heat and used it to bake my bread and roast my meat. How can the rest of it be a god? Should I bow down to worship a chunk of wood?"
  3. The poor, deluded fool feeds on ashes. He is trusting something that can give him no help at all. Yet he cannot bring himself to ask, "Is this thing, this idol that I'm holding in my hand, a lie?"

  1. This evil man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles.
  2. He will use every kind of wicked deception to fool those who are on their way to destruction because they refuse to believe the truth that would save them.
  3. So God will send great deception upon them, and they will believe all these lies.

  1. This message came to me from the LORD:
  2. "Son of man, once there were two sisters who were daughters of the same mother.
  3. They became prostitutes in Egypt. Even as young girls, they allowed themselves to be fondled and caressed.
  4. The older girl was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. I married them, and they bore me sons and daughters. I am speaking of Samaria and Jerusalem, for Oholah is Samaria and Oholibah is Jerusalem.
  5. "Then Oholah lusted after other lovers instead of me, and she gave her love to the Assyrians, her neighbors.

2 Chronicles 21:13

  1. Instead, you have been as evil as the kings of Israel. You have led the people of Jerusalem and Judah to worship idols, just as King Ahab did in Israel. And you have even killed your own brothers, men who were better than you.

Hosea 9:1

  1. O people of Israel, do not rejoice as others do. For you have been unfaithful to your God, hiring yourselves out like prostitutes, offering sacrifices to other gods on every threshing floor.
