Hosea 14:6

6: Its branches will spread out like those of beautiful olive trees, as fragrant as the cedar forests of Lebanon.

But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I trust in God's unfailing love forever and ever.

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine, flourishing within your home. And look at all those children! There they sit around your table as vigorous and healthy as young olive trees.

So Jacob went over and kissed him. And when Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he was finally convinced, and he blessed his son. He said, "The smell of my son is the good smell of the open fields that the LORD has blessed.

"I, the LORD, once called them a thriving olive tree, beautiful to see and full of good fruit. But now I have sent the fury of their enemies to burn them with fire, leaving them charred and broken.

"Then he planted one of its seedlings in fertile ground beside a broad river, where it would grow as quickly as a willow tree.
It took root there and grew into a low, spreading vine. Its branches turned up toward the eagle, and its roots grew down beneath it. It soon produced strong branches and luxuriant leaves.
But then another great eagle with broad wings and full plumage came along. So the vine sent its roots and branches out toward him for water.
The vine did this even though it was already planted in good soil and had plenty of water so it could grow into a splendid vine and produce rich leaves and luscious fruit.

Your lips, my bride, are as sweet as honey. Yes, honey and cream are under your tongue. The scent of your clothing is like that of the mountains and the cedars of Lebanon.
"You are like a private garden, my treasure, my bride! You are like a spring that no one else can drink from, a fountain of my own.
You are like a lovely orchard bearing precious fruit, with the rarest of perfumes:
nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, myrrh and aloes, perfume from every incense tree, and every other lovely spice.
You are a garden fountain, a well of living water, as refreshing as the streams from the Lebanon mountains."

But thanks be to God, who made us his captives and leads us along in Christ's triumphal procession. Now wherever we go he uses us to tell others about the Lord and to spread the Good News like a sweet perfume.
Our lives are a fragrance presented by Christ to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those being saved and by those perishing.

" `While I was lying in my bed, this is what I dreamed. I saw a large tree in the middle of the earth.
The tree grew very tall and strong, reaching high into the heavens for all the world to see.
It had fresh green leaves, and it was loaded with fruit for all to eat. Wild animals lived in its shade, and birds nested in its branches. All the world was fed from this tree.
" `Then as I lay there dreaming, I saw a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven.
The messenger shouted, "Cut down the tree; lop off its branches! Shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit! Chase the animals from its shade and the birds from its branches.

You cleared the ground for us, and we took root and filled the land.
The mountains were covered with our shade; the mighty cedars were covered with our branches.
We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea, our limbs east to the Euphrates River.

And since Abraham and the other patriarchs were holy, their children will also be holy. For if the roots of the tree are holy, the branches will be, too.
But some of these branches from Abraham's tree, some of the Jews, have been broken off. And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, were grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in God's rich nourishment of his special olive tree.
But you must be careful not to brag about being grafted in to replace the branches that were broken off. Remember, you are just a branch, not the root.
"Well," you may say, "those branches were broken off to make room for me."
Yes, but remember--those branches, the Jews, were broken off because they didn't believe God, and you are there because you do believe. Don't think highly of yourself, but fear what could happen.

Here is another illustration Jesus used: "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field.

At the moment I have all I need--more than I need! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable to God and pleases him.

You are as Assyria was--a great and mighty nation. Assyria, too, was once like a cedar of Lebanon, full of thick branches that cast deep forest shade with its top high among the clouds.
Deep springs watered it and helped it to grow tall and luxuriant. The water was so abundant that there was enough for all the trees nearby.
This great tree towered above all the other trees around it. It prospered and grew long thick branches because of all the water at its roots.
The birds nested in its branches, and in its shade all the wild animals gave birth to their young. All the great nations of the world lived in its shadow.
It was strong and beautiful, for its roots went deep into abundant water.
