33: Then when Jacob had finished this charge to his sons, he lay back in the bed, breathed his last, and died.

Then Jacob told them, "Soon I will die. Bury me with my father and grandfather in the cave in Ephron's field.

The righteous pass away; the godly often die before their time. And no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.
For the godly who die will rest in peace.

Then the LORD brought Abram outside beneath the night sky and told him, "Look up into the heavens and count the stars if you can. Your descendants will be like that--too many to count!"

Joshua said to all the people, "This stone has heard everything the LORD said to us. It will be a witness to testify against you if you go back on your word to God."
Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.
Soon after this, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.

"But when people die, they lose all strength. They breathe their last, and then where are they?

Then Jacob called together all his sons and said, "Gather around me, and I will tell you what is going to happen to you in the days to come.

All these faithful ones died without receiving what God had promised them, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed the promises of God. They agreed that they were no more than foreigners and nomads here on earth.
And obviously people who talk like that are looking forward to a country they can call their own.
If they had meant the country they came from, they would have found a way to go back.
But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a heavenly city for them.

And I know that you are sending me to my death--the destination of all who live.

You will live to a good old age. You will not be harvested until the proper time!

But his bow remained strong, and his arms were strengthened by the Mighty One of Jacob, the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel.
May the God of your ancestors help you; may the Almighty bless you with the blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the earth beneath, and blessings of the breasts and womb.
May the blessings of your ancestors be greater than the blessings of the eternal mountains, reaching to the utmost bounds of the everlasting hills. These blessings will fall on the head of Joseph, who is a prince among his brothers.

and he died at a ripe old age, joining his ancestors in death. Then his sons, Esau and Jacob, buried him.

You have come to the assembly of God's firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge of all people. And you have come to the spirits of the redeemed in heaven who have now been made perfect.

For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

And it was by faith that Joseph, when he was about to die, confidently spoke of God's bringing the people of Israel out of Egypt. He was so sure of it that he commanded them to carry his bones with them when they left!
