6: And Sarah declared, "God has brought me laughter! All who hear about this will laugh with me.

"Sing, O childless woman! Break forth into loud and joyful song, O Jerusalem, even though you never gave birth to a child. For the woman who could bear no children now has more than all the other women," says the LORD.

We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, "What amazing things the LORD has done for them."

Then Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. "How could I become a father at the age of one hundred?" he wondered. "Besides, Sarah is ninety; how could she have a baby?"

she laughed silently to herself. "How could a worn-out woman like me have a baby?" she thought. "And when my master--my husband--is also so old?"
Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, `Can an old woman like me have a baby?'
Is anything too hard for the LORD? About a year from now, just as I told you, I will return, and Sarah will have a son."
Sarah was afraid, so she denied that she had laughed. But he said, "That is not true. You did laugh."

"Sir, do you remember me?" Hannah asked. "I am the woman who stood here several years ago praying to the LORD.
I asked the LORD to give me this child, and he has given me my request.
Now I am giving him to the LORD, and he will belong to the LORD his whole life." And they worshiped the LORD there.
Then Hannah prayed: "My heart rejoices in the LORD! Oh, how the LORD has blessed me! Now I have an answer for my enemies, as I delight in your deliverance.
No one is holy like the LORD! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.

Mary responded, "Oh, how I praise the Lord.
How I rejoice in God my Savior!
For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and now generation after generation will call me blessed.
For he, the Mighty One, is holy, and he has done great things for me.
His mercy goes on from generation to generation, to all who fear him.

Then you will think to yourself, `Who has given me all these descendants? For most of my children were killed, and the rest were carried away into exile. I was left here all alone. Who bore these children? Who raised them for me?'"

It will be like a woman experiencing the pains of labor. When her child is born, her anguish gives place to joy because she has brought a new person into the world.
You have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.

The word spread quickly to her neighbors and relatives that the Lord had been very kind to her, and everyone rejoiced with her.

You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice with you at his birth,

He gives the barren woman a home, so that she becomes a happy mother. Praise the LORD!

That is what Isaiah meant when he prophesied, "Rejoice, O childless woman! Break forth into loud and joyful song, even though you never gave birth to a child. For the woman who could bear no children now has more than all the other women!"
And you, dear brothers and sisters, are children of the promise, just like Isaac.

It was by faith that Sarah together with Abraham was able to have a child, even though they were too old and Sarah was barren. Abraham believed that God would keep his promise.

"Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for a child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!
