Genesis 13:13

13: The people of this area were unusually wicked and sinned greatly against the LORD.

He is especially hard on those who follow their own evil, lustful desires and who despise authority. These people are proud and arrogant, daring even to scoff at the glorious ones without so much as trembling.

And don't forget the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with sexual immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and are a warning of the eternal fire that will punish all who are evil.

Then he added, "Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: 'I want you to be merciful; I don't want your sacrifices.' For I have come to call sinners, not those who think they are already good enough."

And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved.

"Your older sister was Samaria, who lived with her daughters in the north. Your younger sister was Sodom, who lived with her daughters in the south.
But you have not merely sinned as they did--no, that was nothing to you. In a very short time you far surpassed them!
As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, Sodom and her daughters were never as wicked as you and your daughters.
Sodom's sins were pride, laziness, and gluttony, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door.
She was proud and did loathsome things, so I wiped her out, as you have seen.

Can anyone hide from me? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?" asks the LORD.

So the LORD told Abraham, "I have heard that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah are extremely evil, and that everything they do is wicked.

Later, he turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into heaps of ashes and swept them off the face of the earth. He made them an example of what will happen to ungodly people.
But at the same time, God rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a good man who was sick of all the immorality and wickedness around him.
Yes, he was a righteous man who was distressed by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day.

Nothing in all creation can hide from him. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes. This is the God to whom we must explain all that we have done.

Judah and Jerusalem will lie in ruins because they speak out against the LORD and refuse to obey him. They have offended his glorious presence among them.
The very look on their faces gives them away and displays their guilt. They sin openly like the people of Sodom. They are not one bit ashamed. How terrible it will be for them! They have brought about their own destruction.

Now the earth had become corrupt in God's sight, and it was filled with violence.

So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, "Give glory to God by telling the truth, because we know Jesus is a sinner."

And the LORD sent you on a mission and told you, `Go and completely destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, until they are all dead.'

After four generations your descendants will return here to this land, when the sin of the Amorites has run its course."

And you people of Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to the place of the dead. For if the miracles I did for you had been done in Sodom, it would still be here today.
I assure you, Sodom will be better off on the judgment day than you."

as they were preparing to retire for the night, all the men of Sodom, young and old, came from all over the city and surrounded the house.
They shouted to Lot, "Where are the men who came to spend the night with you? Bring them out so we can have sex with them."
Lot stepped outside to talk to them, shutting the door behind him.
"Please, my brothers," he begged, "don't do such a wicked thing.
Look--I have two virgin daughters. Do with them as you wish, but leave these men alone, for they are under my protection."

If the LORD Almighty had not spared a few of us, we would have been wiped out as completely as Sodom and Gomorrah.

Well, God doesn't listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will.

He was a mighty hunter in the LORD's sight. His name became proverbial, and people would speak of someone as being "like Nimrod, a mighty hunter in the LORD's sight."

Manasseh even sacrificed his own son in the fire. He practiced sorcery and divination, and he consulted with mediums and psychics. He did much that was evil in the LORD's sight, arousing his anger.

That night Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to be his dinner guests, along with his fellow tax collectors and many other notorious sinners.
