11: But the marshes and swamps will not be purified; they will be sources of salt.

They will find its soil turned into sulfur and salt, with nothing planted and nothing growing, not even a blade of grass. It will be just like Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD destroyed in his anger.

Let the one who is doing wrong continue to do wrong; the one who is vile, continue to be vile; the one who is good, continue to do good; and the one who is holy, continue in holiness."

For it is impossible to restore to repentance those who were once enlightened--those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit,
who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come--
and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people to repentance again because they are nailing the Son of God to the cross again by rejecting him, holding him up to public shame.
When the ground soaks up the rain that falls on it and bears a good crop for the farmer, it has the blessing of God.
But if a field bears thistles and thorns, it is useless. The farmer will condemn that field and burn it.

Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received a full knowledge of the truth, there is no other sacrifice that will cover these sins.
There will be nothing to look forward to but the terrible expectation of God's judgment and the raging fire that will consume his enemies.
Anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Think how much more terrible the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God and have treated the blood of the covenant as if it were common and unholy. Such people have insulted and enraged the Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to his people.
For we know the one who said, "I will take vengeance. I will repay those who deserve it." He also said, "The Lord will judge his own people."

They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, on the salty flats where no one lives.

He turns the fruitful land into salty wastelands, because of the wickedness of those who live there.

They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves to sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.
And when people escape from the wicked ways of the world by learning about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up with sin and become its slave again, they are worse off than before.
It would be better if they had never known the right way to live than to know it and then reject the holy commandments that were given to them.
They make these proverbs come true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and "A washed pig returns to the mud."
