34: The fields that used to lie empty and desolate--a shock to all who passed by--will again be farmed.

Ezekiel 6:14

  1. I will crush them and make their cities desolate from the wilderness in the south to Riblah in the north. Then they will know that I am the LORD."

Jeremiah 25:9

  1. I will gather together all the armies of the north under King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, whom I have appointed as my deputy. I will bring them all against this land and its people and against the other nations near you. I will completely destroy you and make you an object of horror and contempt and a ruin forever.
  2. I will take away your happy singing and laughter. The joyful voices of bridegrooms and brides will no longer be heard. Your businesses will fail, and all your homes will stand silent and dark.
  3. This entire land will become a desolate wasteland. Israel and her neighboring lands will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.

Deuteronomy 29:23

  1. They will find its soil turned into sulfur and salt, with nothing planted and nothing growing, not even a blade of grass. It will be just like Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD destroyed in his anger.
  2. The surrounding nations will ask, `Why has the LORD done this to his land? Why was he so angry?'
  3. "And they will be told, `This happened because the people of the land broke the covenant they made with the LORD, the God of their ancestors, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
  4. They turned to serve and worship other gods that were foreign to them, gods that the LORD had not designated for them.
  5. That is why the LORD's anger burned against this land, bringing down on it all the curses recorded in this book.

2 Chronicles 36:21

  1. So the message of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah was fulfilled. The land finally enjoyed its Sabbath rest, lying desolate for seventy years, just as the prophet had said.
