8: Son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not join them in being a rebel. Open your mouth, and eat what I give you."

So I approached him and asked him to give me the little scroll. "Yes, take it and eat it," he said. "At first it will taste like honey, but when you swallow it, it will make your stomach sour!"

Your words are what sustain me. They bring me great joy and are my heart's delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.

The Sovereign LORD has spoken to me, and I have listened. I do not rebel or turn away.

The voice said to me, "Son of man, eat what I am giving you--eat this scroll! Then go and give its message to the people of Israel."
So I opened my mouth, and he fed me the scroll.
"Eat it all," he said. And when I ate it, it tasted as sweet as honey.

"The time has come for Aaron to join his ancestors in death. He will not enter the land I am giving the people of Israel, because the two of you rebelled against my instructions concerning the waters of Meribah.

He cried out to the man of God from Judah, "This is what the LORD says: You have defied the LORD's message and have disobeyed the command the LORD your God gave you.
You came back to this place and ate food and drank water where he told you not to eat or drink. Because of this, your body will not be buried in the grave of your ancestors."

Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecies spoken to you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.
Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.
Keep a close watch on yourself and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right, and God will save you and those who hear you.

Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your good example.

Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD meant when he said, `I will show myself holy among those who are near me. I will be glorified before all the people.'" And Aaron was silent.

Then he and Aaron summoned the people to come and gather at the rock. "Listen, you rebels!" he shouted. "Must we bring you water from this rock?"
Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with the staff, and water gushed out. So all the people and their livestock drank their fill.
But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!"
This place was known as the waters of Meribah, because it was where the people of Israel argued with the LORD, and where he demonstrated his holiness among them.

Then he added, "Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself.
