1: These are the sons of Jacob who went with their father to Egypt, each with his family:
Genesis 46:8
- These are the names of the Israelites, the descendants of Jacob, who went with him to Egypt: Reuben was Jacob's oldest son.
- The sons of Reuben were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
- The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul. (Shaul's mother was a Canaanite woman.)
- The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
- The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah. (But Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan.) The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

- The sons of Israel were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
- Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
Genesis 35:23
- The sons of Leah were Reuben (Jacob's oldest son), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
- The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.
- The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's servant, were Dan and Naphtali.
- The sons of Zilpah, Leah's servant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob at Paddan-aram.
Genesis 35:18
- Rachel was about to die, but with her last breath she named him Ben-oni; the baby's father, however, called him Benjamin.
Genesis 49:3
- "Reuben, you are my oldest son, the child of my vigorous youth. You are first on the list in rank and honor.
- But you are as unruly as the waves of the sea, and you will be first no longer. For you slept with one of my wives; you dishonored me in my own bed.
- "Simeon and Levi are two of a kind--men of violence.
- O my soul, stay away from them. May I never be a party to their wicked plans. For in their anger they murdered men, and they crippled oxen just for sport.

Genesis 29:31
- But because Leah was unloved, the LORD let her have a child, while Rachel was childless.
- So Leah became pregnant and had a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, "The LORD has noticed my misery, and now my husband will love me."
- She soon became pregnant again and had another son. She named him Simeon, for she said, "The LORD heard that I was unloved and has given me another son."
- Again she became pregnant and had a son. She named him Levi, for she said, "Surely now my husband will feel affection for me, since I have given him three sons!"
- Once again she became pregnant and had a son. She named him Judah, for she said, "Now I will praise the LORD!" And then she stopped having children.
1 Chronicles 12:23
- These are the numbers of armed warriors who joined David at Hebron. They were all eager to see David become king instead of Saul, just as the LORD had promised.
- From the tribe of Judah, there were 6,800 warriors armed with shields and spears.
- From the tribe of Simeon, there were 7,100 warriors.
- From the tribe of Levi, there were 4,600 troops.
- This included Jehoiada, leader of the family of Aaron, who had 3,700 under his command.
Exodus 6:14
- These are the ancestors of clans from some of Israel's tribes: The descendants of Reuben, Israel's oldest son, included Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. Their descendants became the clans of Reuben.
- The descendants of Simeon included Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul (whose mother was a Canaanite). Their descendants became the clans of Simeon.
- These are the descendants of Levi, listed according to their family groups. In the first generation were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. (Levi, their father, lived to be 137 years old.)
