16: "As for the towns of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as a special possession, destroy every living thing in them.

And the Israelites took all the captured goods and cattle of the ravaged cities for themselves, but they killed all the people.

Then the people of Israel made this vow to the LORD: "If you will help us conquer these people, we will completely destroy all their towns."
