3: When all these officials had arrived and were standing before the image King Nebuchadnezzar had set up,
Revelation 17:17
- For God has put a plan into their minds, a plan that will carry out his purposes. They will mutually agree to give their authority to the scarlet beast, and so the words of God will be fulfilled.
Revelation 13:13
- He did astounding miracles, such as making fire flash down to earth from heaven while everyone was watching.
- And with all the miracles he was allowed to perform on behalf of the first beast, he deceived all the people who belong to this world. He ordered the people of the world to make a great statue of the first beast, who was fatally wounded and then came back to life.
- He was permitted to give life to this statue so that it could speak. Then the statue commanded that anyone refusing to worship it must die.
- He required everyone--great and small, rich and poor, slave and free--to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead.
Psalms 82:1
- God presides over heaven's court; he pronounces judgment on the judges:
- "How long will you judges hand down unjust decisions? How long will you shower special favors on the wicked?
- "Give fair judgment to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
- Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
- But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! And because they are in darkness, the whole world is shaken to the core.

Romans 1:21
- Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. The result was that their minds became dark and confused.
- Claiming to be wise, they became utter fools instead.
- And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people, or birds and animals and snakes.
- So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies.
- Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever. Amen.
