22: "And now I am going to Jerusalem, drawn there irresistibly by the Holy Spirit, not knowing what awaits me,

How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog--it's here a little while, then it's gone.

Gathering the twelve disciples around him, Jesus told them, "As you know, we are going to Jerusalem. And when we get there, all the predictions of the ancient prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true.
He will be handed over to the Romans to be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit upon.
They will whip him and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again."

But the Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that my days here on earth are numbered and I am soon to die.

Afterward Paul felt impelled by the Holy Spirit to go over to Macedonia and Achaia before returning to Jerusalem. "And after that," he said, "I must go on to Rome!"

There is a terrible baptism ahead of me, and I am under a heavy burden until it is accomplished.

Paul had decided against stopping at Ephesus this time because he didn't want to spend further time in the province of Asia. He was hurrying to get to Jerusalem, if possible, for the Festival of Pentecost.

Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He now showed the disciples the full extent of his love.

When he visited us, he took Paul's belt and bound his own feet and hands with it. Then he said, "The Holy Spirit declares, 'So shall the owner of this belt be bound by the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem and turned over to the Romans.'"
When we heard this, we who were traveling with him, as well as the local believers, begged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.
But he said, "Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! For I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but also to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus."
When it was clear that we couldn't persuade him, we gave up and said, "The will of the Lord be done."

Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him. Stepping forward to meet them, he asked, "Whom are you looking for?"

As the time drew near for his return to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city.

Whatever we do, it is because Christ's love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for everyone, we also believe that we have all died to the old life we used to live.
