7: They were beside themselves with wonder. "How can this be?" they exclaimed. "These people are all from Galilee,

They stood there amazed and perplexed. "What can this mean?" they asked each other.

They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing here staring at the sky? Jesus has been taken away from you into heaven. And someday, just as you saw him go, he will return!"

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers--Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew--fishing with a net, for they were commercial fishermen.
Jesus called out to them, "Come, be my disciples, and I will show you how to fish for people!"
And they left their nets at once and went with him.
A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, mending their nets. And he called them to come, too.
They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.

A little later some other bystanders came over to him and said, "You must be one of them; we can tell by your Galilean accent."

When the listening crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in their local dialect, "These men are gods in human bodies!"
They decided that Barnabas was the Greek god Zeus and that Paul, because he was the chief speaker, was Hermes.

They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Search the Scriptures and see for yourself--no prophet ever comes from Galilee!"

The man jumped up, took the mat, and pushed his way through the stunned onlookers. Then they all praised God. "We've never seen anything like this before!" they exclaimed.

When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded!

Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. "What sort of new teaching is this?" they asked excitedly. "It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!"
