Acts 17:34

34: but some joined him and became believers. Among them were Dionysius, a member of the Council, a woman named Damaris, and others.

Then they took him to the Council of Philosophers. "Come and tell us more about this new religion," they said.

Afterward Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus (because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate for permission to take Jesus' body down. When Pilate gave him permission, he came and took the body away.
Nicodemus, the man who had come to Jesus at night, also came, bringing about seventy-five pounds of embalming ointment made from myrrh and aloes.
Together they wrapped Jesus' body in a long linen cloth with the spices, as is the Jewish custom of burial.
The place of crucifixion was near a garden, where there was a new tomb, never used before.
And so, because it was the day of preparation before the Passover and since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

And all the other Christians send their greetings, too, especially those who work in Caesar's palace.

"And so it is, that many who are first now will be last then; and those who are last now will be first then."

So Paul, standing before the Council, addressed them as follows: "Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious,

"Is there a single one of us rulers or Pharisees who believes in him?
These ignorant crowds do, but what do they know about it? A curse on them anyway!"
Nicodemus, the leader who had met with Jesus earlier, then spoke up.
"Is it legal to convict a man before he is given a hearing?" he asked.
They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Search the Scriptures and see for yourself--no prophet ever comes from Galilee!"

When the Gentiles heard this, they were very glad and thanked the Lord for his message; and all who were appointed to eternal life became believers.

Some who listened were persuaded and became converts, including a large number of godly Greek men and also many important women of the city.

"The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.
It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

It is the same today, for not all the Jews have turned away from God. A few are being saved as a result of God's kindness in choosing them.
And if they are saved by God's kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God's wonderful kindness would not be what it really is--free and undeserved.
