1: Then all the tribes of Israel went to David at Hebron and told him, "We are all members of your family.

For a long time, even while Saul was our king, you were the one who really led Israel. And the LORD your God has told you, `You will be the shepherd of my people Israel. You will be their leader.'"
So there at Hebron David made a covenant with the leaders of Israel before the LORD. They anointed him king of Israel, just as the LORD had promised through Samuel.

And David told them to tell Amasa, "Since you are my nephew, may God strike me dead if I do not appoint you as commander of my army in place of Joab."

These are the numbers of armed warriors who joined David at Hebron. They were all eager to see David become king instead of Saul, just as the LORD had promised.
From the tribe of Judah, there were 6,800 warriors armed with shields and spears.
From the tribe of Simeon, there were 7,100 warriors.
From the tribe of Levi, there were 4,600 troops.
This included Jehoiada, leader of the family of Aaron, who had 3,700 under his command.

Because God's children are human beings--made of flesh and blood--Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death.

"Ask the people of Shechem whether they want to be ruled by all seventy of Gideon's sons or by one man. And remember, I am your own flesh and blood!"

If this happens, be sure that you select as king the man the LORD your God chooses. You must appoint a fellow Israelite, not a foreigner.
