- About a month later, King Nahash of Ammon led his army against the Israelite city of Jabesh-gilead. But the citizens of Jabesh asked for peace. "Make a treaty with us, and we will be your servants," they pleaded.
1 Samuel 22:3
- Later David went to Mizpeh in Moab, where he asked the king, "Would you let my father and mother live here under royal protection until I know what God is going to do for me?"
- The king agreed, and David's parents stayed in Moab while David was living in his stronghold.
Nehemiah 4:3

- These nations did not welcome you with food and water when you came out of Egypt. Instead, they tried to hire Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram-naharaim to curse you.
- (But the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam. He turned the intended curse into a blessing because the LORD your God loves you.)
- You must never, as long as you live, try to help the Ammonites or the Moabites in any way.
Nehemiah 13:1
- On that same day, as the Book of Moses was being read, the people found a statement which said that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever be permitted to enter the assembly of God.
- For they had not been friendly to the Israelites when they left Egypt. Instead, they hired Balaam to curse them, though our God turned the curse into a blessing.
- When this law was read, all those of mixed ancestry were immediately expelled from the assembly.
