28: But then the king asked, "What is the matter?" She replied, "This woman proposed that we eat my son one day and her son the next.

Tenderhearted women have cooked their own children and eaten them in order to survive the siege.

They were shouting as they caught up with them. The men of Dan turned around and said, "What do you want? Why have you called these men together and chased after us like this?"

The siege will be so severe that you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you.
The most tenderhearted man among you will have no compassion for his own brother, his beloved wife, and his surviving children.
He will refuse to give them a share of the flesh he is devouring--the flesh of one of his own children--because he has nothing else to eat during the siege that your enemy will inflict on all your towns.
The most tender and delicate woman among you--so delicate she would not so much as touch her feet to the ground--will be cruel to the husband she loves and to her own son or daughter.
She will hide from them the afterbirth and the new baby she has borne, so that she herself can secretly eat them. She will have nothing else to eat during the siege and terrible distress that your enemy will inflict on all your towns.

What's wrong, Red Sea, that made you hurry out of their way? What happened, Jordan River, that you turned away?

This message came to me concerning Jerusalem: What is happening? Why is everyone running to the rooftops?

"Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for a child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!

"What's the matter, Hannah?" Elkanah would ask. "Why aren't you eating? Why be so sad just because you have no children? You have me--isn't that better than having ten sons?"

Then God heard the boy's cries, and the angel of God called to Hagar from the sky, "Hagar, what's wrong? Do not be afraid! God has heard the boy's cries from the place where you laid him.

Parents will eat their own children, and children will eat their parents. And I will punish you by scattering the few who survive to the far reaches of the earth.

They fight against their own neighbors to steal food, but they will still be hungry. In the end they will even eat their own children.
Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, Ephraim will feed on Manasseh, and both will devour Judah. But even then the LORD's anger will not be satisfied. His fist is still poised to strike.

A person in the field must not return even to get a coat.
How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for mothers nursing their babies in those days.
And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath.
For that will be a time of greater horror than anything the world has ever seen or will ever see again.

For the days are coming when they will say, 'Fortunate indeed are the women who are childless, the wombs that have not borne a child and the breasts that have never nursed.'
