Jeremiah 49:1

2 Samuel 10:1

  1. Some time after this, King Nahash of the Ammonites died, and his son Hanun became king.
  2. David said, "I am going to show complete loyalty to Hanun because his father, Nahash, was always completely loyal to me." So David sent ambassadors to express sympathy to Hanun about his father's death. But when David's ambassadors arrived in the land of Ammon,
  3. Hanun's advisers said to their master, "Do you really think these men are coming here to honor your father? No! David has sent them to spy out the city so that they can come in and conquer it!"
  4. So Hanun seized David's ambassadors and shaved off half of each man's beard, cut off their robes at the buttocks, and sent them back to David in shame.
  5. When David heard what had happened, he sent messengers to tell the men to stay at Jericho until their beards grew out, for they were very embarrassed by their appearance.

Judges 11:4

  1. At about this time, the Ammonites began their war against Israel.
  2. When the Ammonites attacked, the leaders of Gilead sent for Jephthah in the land of Tob. They said,
  3. "Come and be our commander! Help us fight the Ammonites!"
  4. But Jephthah said to them, "Aren't you the ones who hated me and drove me from my father's house? Why do you come to me now when you're in trouble?"
  5. "Because we need you," they replied. "If you will lead us in battle against the Ammonites, we will make you ruler over all the people of Gilead."
