3: Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab's family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong.

Do not intermarry with them, and don't let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters.
They will lead your young people away from me to worship other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and he will destroy you.

So his mother took two hundred of the silver coins to a silversmith, who made them into an image and an idol. And these were placed in Micah's house.
Micah set up a shrine, and he made a sacred ephod and some household idols. Then he installed one of his sons as the priest.

At her mother's urging, the girl asked, "I want the head of John the Baptist on a tray!"
The king was sorry, but because of his oath and because he didn't want to back down in front of his guests, he issued the necessary orders.
So John was beheaded in the prison,
and his head was brought on a tray and given to the girl, who took it to her mother.

About the same time I realized that some of the men of Judah had married women from Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab.
Even worse, half their children spoke in the language of Ashdod or some other people and could not speak the language of Judah at all.
So I confronted them and called down curses on them. I beat some of them and pulled out their hair. I made them swear before God that they would not let their children intermarry with the pagan people of the land.
"Wasn't this exactly what led King Solomon of Israel into sin?" I demanded. "There was no king from any nation who could compare to him, and God loved him and made him king over all Israel. But even he was led into sin by his foreign wives.
How could you even think of committing this sinful deed and acting unfaithfully toward God by marrying foreign women?"

"Suppose your brother, son, daughter, beloved wife, or closest friend comes to you secretly and says, `Let us go worship other gods'--gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known.
They might suggest that you worship the gods of peoples who live nearby or who come from the ends of the earth.
If they do this, do not give in or listen, and have no pity. Do not spare or protect them.
You must put them to death! You must be the one to initiate the execution; then all the people must join in.
Stone the guilty ones to death because they have tried to draw you away from the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of slavery.

If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.

In those days, and even afterward, giants lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with human women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes mentioned in legends of old.
Now the LORD observed the extent of the people's wickedness, and he saw that all their thoughts were consistently and totally evil.

What if my father touches me? He'll see that I'm trying to trick him, and then he'll curse me instead of blessing me."
