9: A widow who is put on the list for support must be a woman who is at least sixty years old and was faithful to her husband.

1 Timothy 3:2

  1. For an elder must be a man whose life cannot be spoken against. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exhibit self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home and must be able to teach.

  1. A wife is married to her husband as long as he lives. If her husband dies, she is free to marry whomever she wishes, but this must be a marriage acceptable to the Lord.
  2. But in my opinion it will be better for her if she doesn't marry again, and I think I am giving you counsel from God's Spirit when I say this.

1 Timothy 5:3

  1. The church should care for any widow who has no one else to care for her.
  2. But if she has children or grandchildren, their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them. This is something that pleases God very much.

1 Timothy 5:14

  1. So I advise these younger widows to marry again, have children, and take care of their own homes. Then the enemy will not be able to say anything against them.
