2: Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah. Peninnah had children, while Hannah did not.

Isaac pleaded with the LORD to give Rebekah a child because she was childless. So the LORD answered Isaac's prayer, and his wife became pregnant with twins.

One day Lamech said to Adah and Zillah, "Listen to me, my wives. I have killed a youth who attacked and wounded me.

"Suppose a man has two wives, but he loves one and not the other, and both have given him sons. And suppose the firstborn son is the son of the wife he does not love.
When the man divides the inheritance, he may not give the larger inheritance to his younger son, the son of the wife he loves.
He must give the customary double portion to his oldest son, who represents the strength of his father's manhood and who owns the rights of the firstborn son, even though he is the son of the wife his father does not love.

In those days, a man named Manoah from the tribe of Dan lived in the town of Zorah. His wife was unable to become pregnant, and they had no children.

But Sarai, Abram's wife, had no children. So Sarai took her servant, an Egyptian woman named Hagar,
and gave her to Abram so she could bear his children. "The LORD has kept me from having any children," Sarai said to Abram. "Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her." And Abram agreed.

They had no children because Elizabeth was barren, and now they were both very old.

That night, when it was dark, Laban took Leah to Jacob, and he slept with her.
And Laban gave Leah a servant, Zilpah, to be her maid.
But when Jacob woke up in the morning--it was Leah! "What sort of trick is this?" Jacob raged at Laban. "I worked seven years for Rachel. What do you mean by this trickery?"
"It's not our custom to marry off a younger daughter ahead of the firstborn," Laban replied.
"Wait until the bridal week is over, and you can have Rachel, too--that is, if you promise to work another seven years for me."

Jesus replied, "Moses permitted divorce as a concession to your hard-hearted wickedness, but it was not what God had originally intended.

But because Leah was unloved, the LORD let her have a child, while Rachel was childless.

Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, and was very old. She was a widow, for her husband had died when they had been married only seven years.
