1: As the time of King David's death approached, he gave this charge to his son Solomon:

As the time of his death drew near, he called for his son Joseph and said to him, "If you are pleased with me, swear most solemnly that you will honor this, my last request: Do not bury me in Egypt.

Then the LORD said to Moses, "The time has come for you to die. Call Joshua and take him with you to the Tabernacle, and I will commission him there." So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the Tabernacle.

Then the LORD commissioned Joshua son of Nun with these words: "Be strong and courageous! You must bring the people of Israel into the land I swore to give them. I will be with you."

Present him to Eleazar the priest before the whole community, and publicly commission him with the responsibility of leading the people.

Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they give you the confidence to fight well in the Lord's battles.

This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave to the people of Israel before his death:

But commission Joshua and encourage him, for he will lead the people across the Jordan. He will give them the land you now see before you.'

Yes, I believe I should keep on reminding you of these things as long as I live.
But the Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that my days here on earth are numbered and I am soon to die.
So I will work hard to make these things clear to you. I want you to remember them long after I am gone.

As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near.

And so I solemnly urge you before God and before Christ Jesus--who will someday judge the living and the dead when he appears to set up his Kingdom:

And I command you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate,

"And now beware! Be sure that you feed and shepherd God's flock--his church, purchased with his blood--over whom the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders.
I know full well that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock.
Even some of you will distort the truth in order to draw a following.
Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you--my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you.
