26: Jeroboam thought to himself, "Unless I am careful, the kingdom will return to the dynasty of David.

But if you refuse to surrender, you will not escape! This city will be handed over to the Babylonians, and they will burn it to the ground."
"But I am afraid to surrender," the king said, "for the Babylonians will hand me over to the Judeans who have defected to them. And who knows what they will do to me?"
Jeremiah replied, "You won't be handed over to them if you choose to obey the LORD. Your life will be spared, and all will go well for you.
But if you refuse to surrender, this is what the LORD has revealed to me:

Then the leading priests decided to kill Lazarus, too,
for it was because of him that many of the people had deserted them and believed in Jesus.

Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, "Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed."

Then the leading priests and Pharisees called the high council together to discuss the situation. "What are we going to do?" they asked each other. "This man certainly performs many miraculous signs.
If we leave him alone, the whole nation will follow him, and then the Roman army will come and destroy both our Temple and our nation."
And one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said, "How can you be so stupid?
Why should the whole nation be destroyed? Let this one man die for the people."

Then the Pharisees said to each other, "We've lost. Look, the whole world has gone after him!"

"What should we do with these men?" they asked each other. "We can't deny they have done a miraculous sign, and everybody in Jerusalem knows about it.
But perhaps we can stop them from spreading their propaganda. We'll warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus' name again."

Only fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; no one does good!

Israel is no stronger than its capital, Samaria. And Samaria is no stronger than its king, Pekah son of Remaliah. You do not believe me? If you want me to protect you, learn to believe what I say."

If you listen to what I tell you and follow my ways and do whatever I consider to be right, and if you obey my laws and commands, as my servant David did, then I will always be with you. I will establish an enduring dynasty for you as I did for David, and I will give Israel to you.

When the Pharisee who was the host saw what was happening and who the woman was, he said to himself, "This proves that Jesus is no prophet. If God had really sent him, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She's a sinner!"

But some of the teachers of religious law who were sitting there said to themselves,
"What? This is blasphemy! Who but God can forgive sins!"
Jesus knew what they were discussing among themselves, so he said to them, "Why do you think this is blasphemy?

But David kept thinking to himself, "Someday Saul is going to get me. The best thing for me to do is escape to the Philistines. Then Saul will stop hunting for me, and I will finally be safe."
