When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard of Solomon's death, he returned from Egypt, for he had fled to Egypt to escape from King Solomon.
The leaders of Israel sent for Jeroboam, and he and all Israel went together to speak with Rehoboam.
"Your father was a hard master," they said. "Lighten the harsh labor demands and heavy taxes that your father imposed on us. Then we will be your loyal subjects."

This land was located in the territory allotted to the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, the descendants of Joseph.

All of them were taken to Shechem and buried in the tomb Abraham had bought from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.

Then the people of Shechem and Beth-millo called a meeting under the oak beside the pillar at Shechem and made Abimelech their king.

God has promised this by his holiness: "I will divide up Shechem with joy. I will measure out the valley of Succoth.
