Genesis 35:22

  1. While he was there, Reuben slept with Bilhah, his father's concubine, and someone told Jacob about it. These are the names of the twelve sons of Jacob:
  2. The sons of Leah were Reuben (Jacob's oldest son), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
  3. The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.
  4. The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's servant, were Dan and Naphtali.
  5. The sons of Zilpah, Leah's servant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob at Paddan-aram.

Genesis 29:32

  1. So Leah became pregnant and had a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, "The LORD has noticed my misery, and now my husband will love me."
  2. She soon became pregnant again and had another son. She named him Simeon, for she said, "The LORD heard that I was unloved and has given me another son."
  3. Again she became pregnant and had a son. She named him Levi, for she said, "Surely now my husband will feel affection for me, since I have given him three sons!"
  4. Once again she became pregnant and had a son. She named him Judah, for she said, "Now I will praise the LORD!" And then she stopped having children.

Genesis 30:5

  1. Bilhah became pregnant and presented him with a son.
  2. Rachel named him Dan, for she said, "God has vindicated me! He has heard my request and given me a son."
  3. Then Bilhah became pregnant again and gave Jacob a second son.
  4. Rachel named him Naphtali, for she said, "I have had an intense struggle with my sister, and I am winning!"
  5. Meanwhile, Leah realized that she wasn't getting pregnant anymore, so she gave her servant, Zilpah, to Jacob to be his wife.

Genesis 46:8

  1. These are the names of the Israelites, the descendants of Jacob, who went with him to Egypt: Reuben was Jacob's oldest son.
  2. The sons of Reuben were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
  3. The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul. (Shaul's mother was a Canaanite woman.)
  4. The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
  5. The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah. (But Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan.) The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

Genesis 49:4

  1. But you are as unruly as the waves of the sea, and you will be first no longer. For you slept with one of my wives; you dishonored me in my own bed.
  2. "Simeon and Levi are two of a kind--men of violence.
  3. O my soul, stay away from them. May I never be a party to their wicked plans. For in their anger they murdered men, and they crippled oxen just for sport.
  4. Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce; cursed be their wrath, for it is cruel. Therefore, I will scatter their descendants throughout the nation of Israel.
  5. "Judah, your brothers will praise you. You will defeat your enemies. All your relatives will bow before you.

Genesis 35:18

  1. Rachel was about to die, but with her last breath she named him Ben-oni; the baby's father, however, called him Benjamin.
