Psalms 73 17 Then one day I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I thought about the destiny of the wicked.
Psalms 73 18 Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction.
Psalms 73 19 In an instant they are destroyed, swept away by terrors.
Psalms 73 20 Their present life is only a dream that is gone when they awake. When you arise, O Lord, you will make them vanish from this life.
Psalms 73 21 Then I realized how bitter I had become, how pained I had been by all I had seen.
Psalms 73 22 I was so foolish and ignorant--I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.
Psalms 73 23 Yet I still belong to you; you are holding my right hand.

Psalms 73 28 But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign LORD my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do.
Psalms 74 1 O God, why have you rejected us forever? Why is your anger so intense against the sheep of your own pasture?
Psalms 74 2 Remember that we are the people you chose in ancient times, the tribe you redeemed as your own special possession! And remember Jerusalem, your home here on earth.
Psalms 74 3 Walk through the awful ruins of the city; see how the enemy has destroyed your sanctuary.
Psalms 74 4 There your enemies shouted their victorious battle cries; there they set up their battle standards.
Psalms 74 5 They chopped down the entrance like woodcutters in a forest.
Psalms 74 6 With axes and picks, they smashed the carved paneling.
Psalms 74 7 They set the sanctuary on fire, burning it to the ground. They utterly defiled the place that bears your holy name.
Psalms 74 8 Then they thought, "Let's destroy everything!" So they burned down all the places where God was worshiped.
Psalms 74 9 We see no miraculous signs as evidence that you will save us. All the prophets are gone; no one can tell us when it will end.
Psalms 74 10 How long, O God, will you allow our enemies to mock you? Will you let them dishonor your name forever?
Psalms 74 11 Why do you hold back your strong right hand? Unleash your powerful fist and deliver a deathblow.

Psalms 74 17 You set the boundaries of the earth, and you make both summer and winter.
Psalms 74 18 See how these enemies scoff at you, LORD. A foolish nation has dishonored your name.

Psalms 75 4 "I warned the proud, `Stop your boasting!' I told the wicked, `Don't raise your fists!
Psalms 75 5 Don't lift your fists in defiance at the heavens or speak with rebellious arrogance.'"
Psalms 75 6 For no one on earth--from east or west, or even from the wilderness--can raise another person up.
Psalms 75 7 It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall.
Psalms 75 8 For the LORD holds a cup in his hand; it is full of foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours the wine out in judgment, and all the wicked must drink it, draining it to the dregs.
Psalms 75 9 But as for me, I will always proclaim what God has done; I will sing praises to the God of Israel.
Psalms 75 10 For God says, "I will cut off the strength of the wicked, but I will increase the power of the godly."
Psalms 76 1 God is well known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.
Psalms 76 2 Jerusalem is where he lives; Mount Zion is his home.
Psalms 76 3 There he breaks the arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and weapons of his foes.
Psalms 76 4 You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains.
Psalms 76 5 The mightiest of our enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of death. No warrior could lift a hand against us.
Psalms 76 6 When you rebuked them, O God of Jacob, their horses and chariots stood still.
Psalms 76 7 No wonder you are greatly feared! Who can stand before you when your anger explodes?
Psalms 76 8 From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth trembled and stood silent before you.
Psalms 76 9 You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth.
Psalms 76 10 Human opposition only enhances your glory, for you use it as a sword of judgment.

Psalms 77 3 I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help.
Psalms 77 4 You don't let me sleep. I am too distressed even to pray!
Psalms 77 5 I think of the good old days, long since ended,
Psalms 77 6 when my nights were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and think about the difference now.
Psalms 77 7 Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again show me favor?
Psalms 77 8 Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed?
Psalms 77 9 Has God forgotten to be kind? Has he slammed the door on his compassion?
Psalms 77 10 And I said, "This is my fate, that the blessings of the Most High have changed to hatred."
Psalms 77 11 I recall all you have done, O LORD; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.
Psalms 77 12 They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about them.
Psalms 77 13 O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you?
Psalms 77 14 You are the God of miracles and wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations.
Psalms 77 15 You have redeemed your people by your strength, the descendants of Jacob and of Joseph by your might.
Psalms 77 16 When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths.
Psalms 77 17 The clouds poured down their rain; the thunder rolled and crackled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed.
Psalms 77 18 Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook.
Psalms 77 19 Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters--a pathway no one knew was there!
Psalms 77 20 You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.
Psalms 78 1 O my people, listen to my teaching. Open your ears to what I am saying,
Psalms 78 2 for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past--
Psalms 78 3 stories we have heard and know, stories our ancestors handed down to us.
Psalms 78 4 We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did.
Psalms 78 5 For he issued his decree to Jacob; he gave his law to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children,
Psalms 78 6 so the next generation might know them--even the children not yet born--that they in turn might teach their children.
Psalms 78 7 So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.
Psalms 78 8 Then they will not be like their ancestors--stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.
Psalms 78 9 The warriors of Ephraim, though fully armed, turned their backs and fled when the day of battle came.
Psalms 78 10 They did not keep God's covenant, and they refused to live by his law.
Psalms 78 11 They forgot what he had done--the wonderful miracles he had shown them,
Psalms 78 12 the miracles he did for their ancestors in Egypt, on the plain of Zoan.
Psalms 78 13 For he divided the sea before them and led them through! The water stood up like walls beside them!
Psalms 78 14 In the daytime he led them by a cloud, and at night by a pillar of fire.
Psalms 78 15 He split open the rocks in the wilderness to give them plenty of water, as from a gushing spring.
Psalms 78 16 He made streams pour from the rock, making the waters flow down like a river!
Psalms 78 17 Yet they kept on with their sin, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
Psalms 78 18 They willfully tested God in their hearts, demanding the foods they craved.
Psalms 78 19 They even spoke against God himself, saying, "God can't give us food in the desert.
Psalms 78 20 Yes, he can strike a rock so water gushes out, but he can't give his people bread and meat."
Psalms 78 21 When the LORD heard them, he was angry. The fire of his wrath burned against Jacob. Yes, his anger rose against Israel,
Psalms 78 22 for they did not believe God or trust him to care for them.
Psalms 78 23 But he commanded the skies to open--he opened the doors of heaven--
Psalms 78 24 and rained down manna for them to eat. He gave them bread from heaven.
Psalms 78 25 They ate the food of angels! God gave them all they could hold.
Psalms 78 26 He released the east wind in the heavens and guided the south wind by his mighty power.
Psalms 78 27 He rained down meat as thick as dust--birds as plentiful as the sands along the seashore!
Psalms 78 28 He caused the birds to fall within their camp and all around their tents.
Psalms 78 29 The people ate their fill. He gave them what they wanted.
Psalms 78 30 But before they finished eating this food they had craved, while the meat was yet in their mouths,
Psalms 78 31 the anger of God rose against them, and he killed their strongest men; he struck down the finest of Israel's young men.
Psalms 78 32 But in spite of this, the people kept on sinning. They refused to believe in his miracles.
Psalms 78 33 So he ended their lives in failure and gave them years of terror.
Psalms 78 34 When God killed some of them, the rest finally sought him. They repented and turned to God.
Psalms 78 35 Then they remembered that God was their rock, that their redeemer was the Most High.
Psalms 78 36 But they followed him only with their words; they lied to him with their tongues.
Psalms 78 37 Their hearts were not loyal to him. They did not keep his covenant.
Psalms 78 38 Yet he was merciful and forgave their sins and didn't destroy them all. Many a time he held back his anger and did not unleash his fury!
Psalms 78 39 For he remembered that they were merely mortal, gone in a moment like a breath of wind, never to return.
Psalms 78 40 Oh, how often they rebelled against him in the desert and grieved his heart in the wilderness.
Psalms 78 41 Again and again they tested God's patience and frustrated the Holy One of Israel.
Psalms 78 42 They forgot about his power and how he rescued them from their enemies.
Psalms 78 43 They forgot his miraculous signs in Egypt, his wonders on the plain of Zoan.
Psalms 78 44 For he turned their rivers into blood, so no one could drink from the streams.
Psalms 78 45 He sent vast swarms of flies to consume them and hordes of frogs to ruin them.
Psalms 78 46 He gave their crops to caterpillars; their harvest was consumed by locusts.
Psalms 78 47 He destroyed their grapevines with hail and shattered their sycamores with sleet.
Psalms 78 48 He abandoned their cattle to the hail, their livestock to bolts of lightning.
Psalms 78 49 He loosed on them his fierce anger--all his fury, rage, and hostility. He dispatched against them a band of destroying angels.
Psalms 78 50 He turned his anger against them; he did not spare the Egyptians' lives but handed them over to the plague.
Psalms 78 51 He killed the oldest son in each Egyptian family, the flower of youth throughout the land of Egypt.
Psalms 78 52 But he led his own people like a flock of sheep, guiding them safely through the wilderness.
Psalms 78 53 He kept them safe so they were not afraid; but the sea closed in upon their enemies.
Psalms 78 54 He brought them to the border of his holy land, to this land of hills he had won for them.
Psalms 78 55 He drove out the nations before them; he gave them their inheritance by lot. He settled the tribes of Israel into their homes.
Psalms 78 56 Yet though he did all this for them, they continued to test his patience. They rebelled against the Most High and refused to follow his decrees.
Psalms 78 57 They turned back and were as faithless as their parents had been. They were as useless as a crooked bow.
Psalms 78 58 They made God angry by building altars to other gods; they made him jealous with their idols.
Psalms 78 59 When God heard them, he was very angry, and he rejected Israel completely.
Psalms 78 60 Then he abandoned his dwelling at Shiloh, the Tabernacle where he had lived among the people.
Psalms 78 61 He allowed the Ark of his might to be captured; he surrendered his glory into enemy hands.
Psalms 78 62 He gave his people over to be butchered by the sword, because he was so angry with his own people--his special possession.
Psalms 78 63 Their young men were killed by fire; their young women died before singing their wedding songs.
Psalms 78 64 Their priests were slaughtered, and their widows could not mourn their deaths.
Psalms 78 65 Then the Lord rose up as though waking from sleep, like a mighty man aroused from a drunken stupor.
Psalms 78 66 He routed his enemies and sent them to eternal shame.
Psalms 78 67 But he rejected Joseph's descendants; he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim.
Psalms 78 68 He chose instead the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loved.
Psalms 78 69 There he built his towering sanctuary, as solid and enduring as the earth itself.
Psalms 78 70 He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens.
Psalms 78 71 He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob's descendants--God's own people, Israel.
Psalms 78 72 He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands.
Psalms 79 1 O God, pagan nations have conquered your land, your special possession. They have defiled your holy Temple and made Jerusalem a heap of ruins.
Psalms 79 2 They have left the bodies of your servants as food for the birds of heaven. The flesh of your godly ones has become food for the wild animals.
Psalms 79 3 Blood has flowed like water all around Jerusalem; no one is left to bury the dead.
Psalms 79 4 We are mocked by our neighbors, an object of scorn and derision to those around us.
Psalms 79 5 O LORD, how long will you be angry with us? Forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire?
Psalms 79 6 Pour out your wrath on the nations that refuse to recognize you--on kingdoms that do not call upon your name.
Psalms 79 7 For they have devoured your people Israel, making the land a desolate wilderness.
Psalms 79 8 Oh, do not hold us guilty for our former sins! Let your tenderhearted mercies quickly meet our needs, for we are brought low to the dust.
Psalms 79 9 Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the honor of your name. Oh, save us and forgive our sins for the sake of your name.
Psalms 79 10 Why should pagan nations be allowed to scoff, asking, "Where is their God?" Show us your vengeance against the nations, for they have spilled the blood of your servants.
Psalms 79 11 Listen to the moaning of the prisoners. Demonstrate your great power by saving those condemned to die.
Psalms 79 12 O Lord, take sevenfold vengeance on our neighbors for the scorn they have hurled at you.
Psalms 79 13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will thank you forever and ever, praising your greatness from generation to generation.
Psalms 80 1 Please listen, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Israel like a flock. O God, enthroned above the cherubim, display your radiant glory
Psalms 80 2 to Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Show us your mighty power. Come to rescue us!
Psalms 80 3 Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.
Psalms 80 4 O LORD God Almighty, how long will you be angry and reject our prayers?
Psalms 80 5 You have fed us with sorrow and made us drink tears by the bucketful.
Psalms 80 6 You have made us the scorn of neighboring nations. Our enemies treat us as a joke.
Psalms 80 7 Turn us again to yourself, O God Almighty. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.

Psalms 80 9 You cleared the ground for us, and we took root and filled the land.
Psalms 80 10 The mountains were covered with our shade; the mighty cedars were covered with our branches.
Psalms 80 11 We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea, our limbs east to the Euphrates River.
Psalms 80 12 But now, why have you broken down our walls so that all who pass may steal our fruit?
Psalms 80 13 The boar from the forest devours us, and the wild animals feed on us.
Psalms 80 14 Come back, we beg you, O God Almighty. Look down from heaven and see our plight. Watch over and care for this vine
Psalms 80 15 that you yourself have planted, this son you have raised for yourself.
Psalms 80 16 For we are chopped up and burned by our enemies. May they perish at the sight of your frown.
Psalms 80 17 Strengthen the man you love, the son of your choice.
Psalms 80 18 Then we will never forsake you again. Revive us so we can call on your name once more.
Psalms 80 19 Turn us again to yourself, O LORD God Almighty. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.
Psalms 81 1 Sing praises to God, our strength. Sing to the God of Israel.
Psalms 81 2 Sing! Beat the tambourine. Play the sweet lyre and the harp.
Psalms 81 3 Sound the trumpet for a sacred feast when the moon is new, when the moon is full.
Psalms 81 4 For this is required by the laws of Israel; it is a law of the God of Jacob.
Psalms 81 5 He made it a decree for Israel when he attacked Egypt to set us free. I heard an unknown voice that said,
Psalms 81 6 "Now I will relieve your shoulder of its burden; I will free your hands from their heavy tasks.
Psalms 81 7 You cried to me in trouble, and I saved you; I answered out of the thundercloud. I tested your faith at Meribah, when you complained that there was no water.

Psalms 81 11 "But no, my people wouldn't listen. Israel did not want me around.
Psalms 81 12 So I let them follow their blind and stubborn way, living according to their own desires.
Psalms 81 13 But oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!
Psalms 81 14 How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon my hands would be upon their foes!
Psalms 81 15 Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him; their desolation would last forever.
Psalms 81 16 But I would feed you with the best of foods. I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock."
Psalms 82 1 God presides over heaven's court; he pronounces judgment on the judges:
Psalms 82 2 "How long will you judges hand down unjust decisions? How long will you shower special favors on the wicked?
Psalms 82 3 "Give fair judgment to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
Psalms 82 4 Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
Psalms 82 5 But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! And because they are in darkness, the whole world is shaken to the core.
Psalms 82 6 I say, `You are gods and children of the Most High.

Psalms 83 3 They devise crafty schemes against your people, laying plans against your precious ones.
Psalms 83 4 "Come," they say, "let us wipe out Israel as a nation. We will destroy the very memory of its existence."
Psalms 83 5 This was their unanimous decision. They signed a treaty as allies against you--
Psalms 83 6 these Edomites and Ishmaelites, Moabites and Hagrites,
Psalms 83 7 Gebalites, Ammonites, and Amalekites, and people from Philistia and Tyre.
Psalms 83 8 Assyria has joined them, too, and is allied with the descendants of Lot.

Psalms 83 12 for they said, "Let us seize for our own use these pasturelands of God!"
Psalms 83 13 O my God, blow them away like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind!
Psalms 83 14 As a fire roars through a forest and as a flame sets mountains ablaze,
Psalms 83 15 chase them with your fierce storms; terrify them with your tempests.
Psalms 83 16 Utterly disgrace them until they submit to your name, O LORD.
Psalms 83 17 Let them be ashamed and terrified forever. Make them failures in everything they do,
Psalms 83 18 until they learn that you alone are called the LORD, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth.
Psalms 84 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty.
Psalms 84 2 I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the LORD. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God.

Psalms 84 9 O God, look with favor upon the king, our protector! Have mercy on the one you have anointed.
Psalms 84 10 A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
